The surprising medical problem that is linked to hair loss
In a new study of almost 500,000 black women, published in JAMA Dermatology, it was found that Africa American women with hair loss alopecia have much higher odds of having uterine fibroids. Medically, the researcher think, it is because both uterine fibroids and hair loss can be related to fibrous tissue abnormalities including scarring. Since some women with early fibroids have no noticeable symptoms, it may be worth doing an ultrasound screening in women with hair loss. Women who have hair loss and heavy periods are especially likely to have fibroids.
